For each Department and Agency under the Minister’s control, including the Ministerial office -
(1) How many mobile phones have been reported lost or stolen for the six months to 31 December 2006?
(2) What was the total value of the mobile phones that were lost or stolen?
(3) Was the loss or theft of any of these mobile phones reported to the police?
(4) If yes to (3), when were these reports made?
(5) Of those reported, what has been the outcome?
(6) If any were not reported to the police, why not?
(7) What steps, if any, have been put into place with a view to eliminating, or at least reducing, these losses?
(8) When were these steps put into place?

(1) None (2)-(8) Not applicable The Department of Housing and Works advises: 1) For the period 1 July 2006 to 31 December 2006, 3 mobile phones were reported missing/lost and 3 mobile phones were reported stolen. 2) $1,000. 3) The 3 stolen mobile phones were reported to the Police. With respect to the missing/lost mobile phones, departmental procedures are followed and a block is placed on the handset immediately. A timeframe of 48 hours is set for the possible return/finding of the mobile phone. Of the 3 missing/lost mobile phones 2 were recovered and 1 was reported stolen to Police. 4) At the time the 3 mobile phones were stolen. In the case of the missing/lost mobile phone, 48 hours after it was reported missing/lost. 5) 2 of the missing/lost mobile phones were recovered. There were no recoveries on the 3 stolen mobile phones. 6) Not applicable. 7)The Department has introduced a new reporting procedure to increase staff responsibility. 8) July 2006.
