(1) Safer WA is not the responsibility of the Western Australia Police Service. The Safer WA initiative was introduced by the Premier and responsibility for its administration falls within the ambit of the Ministry of Premier and Cabinet. Notwithstanding this, the Western Australia Police Service is aware that the Carnarvon Committee was changed from a District Committee to a Local Committee as a result of a decision made by the Safer WA Committees' Executive and due to the establishment of the Safer WA Midwest District Committee. (2) The Safer WA Midwest Committee is the District Committee for the Midwest Region. The Safer WA Committees' Executive will give the same consideration to Carnarvon issues as previously. (3) In accordance with present budget allocations, the Carnarvon Committee is entitled to an allocation of $1500. However, the Safer WA Committees' Executive has the authority to examine special financial needs of all committees and review allocations as necessary. (4) The funding impact on the future of the Community Policing Centre in the shopping centre is not known at this time. The Safer WA Committee will need to discuss this issue with the Safer WA Committees' Executive and provide more detail on projected expenses for the Centre (5-6) The impact on long term funding for running costs of the Centre is not known without knowledge of future leasing costs and funds available to the Safer WA Committees' network. (7) The Safer WA Executive Council met on 8 June 2000 to discuss this issue. At the meeting, the Executive Council reaffirmed its decision to change the status of the Carnarvon Committee and confirmed its commitment to provide financial support to the Committee. (8) Refer answer to Question (1).

(8) If not, why not? Answered on 13 September 2000 The Minister Replied: (1) Safer WA is not the responsibility of the Western Australia Police Service.
