NET ZERO EMISSIONS — 2050 TARGET
485. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the Leader of the House representing
the Premier:
I refer to the Premier's recent comments that the
government might possibly enact the net zero emissions by 2050 target in law.
(1) Does the
Premier's comment ruling in the possibility of a legislated net zero
target represent an official change to the
policy that his government took to the last election, including assurances
provided previously to stakeholders?
(2) Were the
Premier's cabinet colleagues, including the Minister for Energy, aware
that he would put out a legislated target on the public agenda, prior to making
those remarks?
(3) At what
point will the Premier make the decision to legislate for a target, and upon
what information will he rely in forming this position?
(4) Should the
Premier decide to legislate a 2050 target, what consultation process will he
initiate prior to drafting a bill?
