ASSET SALES — GOODS AND SERVICES TAX —
COMMONWEALTH PAYMENT
387. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Premier:
I refer to the Premier's comments last week regarding the $499 million
payment from the commonwealth that, and I quote, ''There is no condition
attached to the $499 million—none at all'', and today's
announcement that the Premier will be breaking his promises and selling the
Fremantle port and the TAB.
(1) What privatisation deal did the Premier
agree to with Tony Abbott to get the $499 million for this year's
budget?
(2) Is it not obvious
now that this $499 million is linked with the sale of those two assets?

(1)–(2) It is not obvious at all.
Negotiations were held at the last Council of Australian Governments meeting;
they were as I described previously. Following that COAG meeting, there were
further discussions with the Prime Minister, and the Treasurer and the federal
Treasurer had discussions. The $499 million was committed to by the federal
government payable into the 2014–15 financial year; and, as I said
previously, there were no conditions at all.
