AREVA
RESOURCES AUSTRALIA PTY LTD — NORTH CANNING PROJECT
806. Hon
ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the Minister for Mines and
Petroleum:
I refer to the
exploration incentive scheme co-funded exploration drilling round 9, 2014–15
and the funding provided to Areva Resources Australia Pty Ltd for the North
Canning project and the article in The
West Australian headed ''Areva quits NW nuke project'' dated
11 August 2014.
(1) What was the funding amount?
(2) Was the funding utilised?
(3) If no to (2), was the finding returned?
(4) If yes to (2), will Areva refund the
moneys acquired?
(5) If no to (4), why not?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. On behalf of the Department
of Mines and Petroleum, I advise —
(1) Areva was eligible to receive co-funding
for two drilling projects totalling $280 000. The drilling subsidy from
government is paid as reimbursement after a company undertakes drilling and
submits driller invoices to the Department of Mines and Petroleum.
(2) No; Areva has not drilled either
project.
(3) Funding has not been provided; see the
answer to part (1).
(4)–(5) Not applicable.
