QuestionView source ↗

(1) Is the Minister aware of the growing number of young West Australians who are chosen to represent their State at national competitions or their country at international competitions, but who find the costs associated with their selection difficult to meet?
(2) Specifically, is the Minister aware of young West Australians chosen to represent Australia in the Junior Doubles in the World Junior Rowing Championships in Greece and who are required to find $8,500 each?
(3) Does the Minister acknowledge that many promising young sportsmen and women are given special assistance by attending such organisations like the Institute of Sport or its W.A. counterpart?
(4) For those who do not attend such institutes, but who still manage to win selection at elite levels is it not possible to look for some long-term way of part-financing such sportsmen and women
in lieu
of attending such institutes?
(5) Will the Minister commit to examining long-term ways of ensuring young W.A. sportsmen are not denied national and international exposure due to financial inability?
