The detail of the things that have
been cut has not been finalised yet. We will go to each of those areas looking
at how other programs rate, what they supply and what they do. Some of the
projects are coming to a conclusion. For example, the whole process of funding
is changing for Medicare Local specific funding. Some areas are subject to a
contract and they have concluded. We have a budget issue, as members know.
Everyone would like to spend more money, but there is limited capacity. The
shadow Treasurer and others have been going on about the total amount of money
the government spends. We have got to tighten our belts and one of the ways we
can do that is to work out the priorities for the most important areas of
funding. We have formed a view that in some of those Aboriginal programs, the
gap between what has been funded and the 88 per cent are, we believe, more
important than others, and we will find those funds.
