COMMUNITY HOUSING
762. Hon STEVE MARTIN to the minister representing the
Minister for Housing:
I refer to the media release on 7 August
in which Minister Carey announced that community housing providers will be able
to go straight to the Development Assessment Panel system.
(1) How many
applications from community housing providers have been declined by local
governments in the last six months across the state?
(2) What
historical evidence can the minister provide that bypassing local governments
will lead to an increase in the number of new builds of community housing?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question. The following response has been provided by the
Minister for Housing.
(1)–(2) Boosting
the supply of all forms of housing is a national priority, with planning
ministers across all states and territories focused on streamlining the delivery
of housing, including social and community housing. In the current post-COVID
pandemic housing market, the loss of any individual dwellings or delayed projects is detrimental to overall housing supply.
It is not only the refusal of projects but delays in obtaining planning
approval that result in increased costs for proposed developments, putting them
at risk.
The PRESIDENT : Before I give the call to the Leader of the
Opposition, can I just ask that members clearly enunciate their
questions for the benefit of Hansard—Hansard is recording what you say,
not only what is on the paper—and for my benefit, because I am
listening to ensure that your questions meet the requirements of standing
orders.
