RANGELAND GOATS
(1) Will the minister request the Pastoral Lands Board or any other relevant authority to have the rangeland goat considered as authorised stock for the purpose of assessing small stock units on the rangeland of pastoral leases? (2) Will the minister request the Pastoral Lands Board to prepare guidelines for rangeland goat management on pastoral leases and a code of conduct to assist pastoralists in the effective management of rangeland goats? On behalf of the parliamentary secretary, I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) In consultation with the Department of Agriculture and the Agriculture Protection Board, the Pastoral Lands Board is reviewing the potential for including goats as authorised stock in the Land Administration Regulations 1998. (2) The Pastoral Lands Board intends to request the Department of Agriculture to prepare best practice management guidelines for goat management on pastoral leases irrespective of the outcome of the process referred to in the answer to question (1).
