On behalf of the Minister for
Corrective Services I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. Children in care have not been referred to as ''wards of the
state'' since the introduction of the Children and Community Services
Act 2004, in particular section 30.
Hon Stephen Dawson interjected.
Hon MICHAEL MISCHIN : There seems to be an echo, Mr President.
The PRESIDENT : Would the minister like to start the
answer again?
Hon MICHAEL MISCHIN : Thank you.
Children in care have not been
referred to as ''wards of the state'' since the introduction of
the Children and Community Services Act 2004—that is the last Labor
government—in particular section 30. The correct term for children in protection
is ''child is in the CEO's care''.
