PERTH CHILDREN'S
HOSPITAL — MENTAL HEALTH UNIT — ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT
716. Ms L. METTAM to the Minister for Mental Health:
I have a supplementary question.
Can the minister confirm whether the family requested any additional
recommendations to the report, which I have referred to, and have they been
completed?
The SPEAKER : You get one
question as a supplementary, not two.
Ms L. Mettam : Well, I asked
it.
The SPEAKER : Minister,
sorry, can you just wait a moment, please. Did you have something to say? Were
you backchatting? Do you know how to behave in the chamber? Clearly not.

I think the member has a fundamental
misunderstanding of the role of the Mental Health Advocacy Service. Its role is
to support consumers in the mental health system, and to work with the system
to improve it. Some of these reports are self-reported; they do not necessarily
involve family, particularly with older young people. Young people in the
mental health estate involve people up to 24 years of age, who are largely
adults.
I cannot confirm whether the family
has requested that—I would have to get that information from MHAS—but
I do know that MHAS takes its responsibility incredibly seriously, and when it
is requested to investigate and provide recommendations, it does.
