(1)-(3) I announced a couple of weeks ago that a new high school would be built at Eaton. The project is estimated to cost about $16 million. It will open for the beginning of the 2003 school year. A lot of things need to happen. The first thing that will happen - and I would have expected members opposite to agree to this - is that the community will be involved in discussions about the school’s construction, ethos, programs and the types of facilities that will be required. Once that period of proper community consultation has taken place, the normal design process will get underway and construction will be completed. A new high school will open in Eaton in 2003. Mr Kobelke: You are consulting only because it is an excuse to do nothing. That is the only time that you consult. Mr BARNETT: The member for Nollamara hates that the Government will open a state-of-the-art $16m school in Eaton in 2003. The people of Eaton are delighted with that. I announced the construction of the Eaton school when I visited Australind Senior High School and that school was equally delighted. The new school will take some of the pressure off Australind Senior High School, which has a large student population. The member for Nollamara should go to Australind Senior High School because it is probably the best equipped school, outside the metropolitan area, with technology and computing facilities. The new high school at Eaton will be equally outstanding.
