I refer the minister to the policing contract for police vehicles under which taxpayers are charged a penalty when a 60 000-kilometre limit is exceeded. (1) Why has the minister allowed more than 150 police vehicles currently in service to exceed this limit? (2) Why do individual police stations have to meet the cost of replacement tyres from their operational budgets once the 60 000-kilometre limit is exceeded? (3) Is the minister aware that some police stations are unable to stretch their budgets to replace the tyres as necessary, thereby putting the lives of police officers at risk? Mrs M.H. ROBERTS

(1)-(3) I thank the member for Murray for the question. I am not sure that all his facts are correct, but I will certainly have them investigated. The matter of lease vehicles is, as I understand it, handled by another agency. The member asked about a number of operational matters in the Western Australia Police Service. I will endeavour to provide that information if the member puts the question on notice.
