There are a number of regional plans for the Wheatbelt region of the State. The Central Coast Regional Strategy is currently being reviewed after a five-year operational period. The strategy was the first in Western Australia to feature an integrated approach to terrestrial and marine planning and was recognised by an award from the West Australian Division of the Royal Australian Planning Institute. The Avon Arc Planning Strategy has recently been awarded recognition at both state and national levels by the Planning Institute of Australia. The strategy is geographically focussed on the local governments in the Wheatbelt region, which adjoin metropolitan Perth. Future Perth, based on the South West Urban System also extends beyond the metropolitan area into the Wheatbelt region. The State Planning Strategy provides the overarching plan for the Wheatbelt region, drawing together the higher order planning issues. (3) Information on the regional plans is available from the Department of Planning and Infrastructure, Local Government authorities in the region and the Wheatbelt Development Commission.
