Western Power—Residential connections
342. Hon Steve Martin to
the Leader of the House representing the
Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation:
I refer to a
property at 50 White Street, Brookton, which faces a 12-month wait for power
connection for residential purposes.
(1) Can the minister please confirm the 12-month
delay?
(2) Why will it take so long for power to be
delivered?
(3) Does the Cook Labor government have any
measures in place to prioritise power connections in relation to housing,
particularly to address critical shortages in regional Western Australia?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) Western Power received an application for a
small multi-residential connection in February 2025. Design is expected to be
completed in June 2025, with a quote issued to the customer by the end of that
month. Western Power will complete construction within three months of the
customer paying the quote.
(2) This project is on track to be delivered
within nine months of the application submission date, within Western Power's
advertised timeframes. The customer has been made aware of the expected
timeframe.
(3) Western Power is focused on housing supply
across the entire network. A dedicated residential design area has been
established, with the intent of improving overall connection timeframes for
residential customers. Western Power expects to see improvements to timeframes
commencing in coming months, and those timeframes to continue to improve.
