SUCCESS
FIRE STATION — KIDNEY CANCER CLUSTER
156. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the
Attorney General representing the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to the disclosure in November last year of a possible
kidney cancer cluster at the Success career fire station.
(1) What are
the outcomes of tests undertaken by the Department of Fire and Emergency
Services, WA Health and the Water Corporation?
(2) Has an
independent contractor been engaged to undertake environmental testing; and, if
so, who is that consultant and what is the outcome of that testing?
(3) Will the Minister for Emergency Services table the
reports on the testing provided to DFES?

AnswerView source ↗

On behalf of the Minister for Emergency Services, I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises —
(1) Neither
DFES nor the Western Australian Department of Health has undertaken any testing
at the career fire and rescue station on Hammond Road in Success. The Water
Corporation has provided information, including its testing results, to the
environmental consultant commissioned by DFES to examine the site.
(2) Golder
Associates Pty Ltd undertook environmental testing on the site of the career
fire and rescue station on Hammond Road in Success. Its conclusion is that
there is no identifiable link between the environment at the site and the
incidents of kidney cancer experienced.
(3) Following
the review of all available documentation, the minister will take advice on
whether it is appropriate to table the documentation.
