I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The Rockingham area has not previously been identified as a high priority area for renal satellite development due to the close proximity of an in-centre service at Fremantle Hospital and satellite services at Peel and Melville. The Department of Health currently is reviewing its statewide renal dialysis program and is preparing a five-year service plan for approving renal services in Western Australia. The demand for services in the Rockingham region will be considered as part of this planning process, along with other areas of service requirement within Western Australia. It is important to note that satellite haemodialysis services are appropriate only for medically stable patients, and there will always be a requirement for some patients from different areas to access these services in a teaching hospital renal dialysis unit. (2) $1.1 million. (3) No. See answer to part (1). (4) Not applicable.
