I refer to concerns about the impact of the shortstay accommodation facility planned for Mt Herschel, given its close proximity to the extant development at Longreach Bay. Indications are that the development will increase visitor numbers at those two locations from 170 up to 520.
Can the Premier advise -
(1) Given that the development model for this hotel chosen by the current and former Tourism Ministers is neither the model recommended by the Rottnest Island Taskforce, nor the preferred model of the Rottnest Island Authority’s own social research, and runs counter to the
Rottnest Island Authority Act 1987
, can the Premier assure us that this $50 million project has not been influenced in any way by the lobbyists Mr Burke and Mr Grill or other lobbyists?
(2) If the Premier is unable to guarantee this, will he put the development on hold until the Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC) has finished its investigations and made a full report to the Western Australian public?
(3) In the event that any undue influence is exposed during the course of the CCC investigations will the Premier guarantee to cancel this development and start the tender process over again?
