- Geraldton is currently almost fully reticulated with natural gas by AlintaGas Networks. However, there are some subdivisions in Geraldton where prohibitive soil conditions and the high costs of extending the gas main make such extensions commercially unviable to AlintaGas Networks. In relation to new land subdivisions, AlintaGas Networks will reticulate gas free of charge if the developer provides a common trench and the development abuts AlintaGas Networks' pipeline infrastructure. If the new development is remote from existing infrastructure, the developer is required to contribute to the headworks costs. - Greenough does not have reticulated natural gas. With the nearest gas main situated approximately 20 km from the town, AlintaGas Networks has advised it would cost approximately $2 million to extend the network into Greenough. This cost, combined with a small residential market and no guaranteed gas appliance take up, has meant that AlintaGas Networks has determined that reticulating gas into Greenough is currently not commercially viable. - The Government licences AlintaGas Networks' gas reticulation systems and under these licences, AlintaGas Networks has an obligation without exception to connect residential premises to its distribution system if a customer can be connected to an existing main using no more than 20 metres of service pipe and the connection cost does not exceed $650. (2) N/A (3) An energy rebate, covering both gas and electricity, is currently available to all households that meet the eligibility criteria. The rebate is administered by Western Power as most households have an electricity account but not all households have access to reticulated natural gas.
