WILSON INLET, DENMARK
I refer to Wilson Inlet in Denmark and ask - (1) Is it the intention to open Wilson Inlet? (2) If not, why is it not intended to open it? (3) The flooding of the areas on properties around Lake Saide and Nenamup Inlet and the fact that the inlet is not open are causing those farmers problems. What is the solution if the inlet is not to be opened? (4) Have farmers asked for water to be pumped out of the low-lying areas into the inlet and been refused? (5) If yes, why? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank the member for providing some notice of this question. I am advised in the following terms - (1) No. (2) The Water Corporation has been prevented from opening Wilson Inlet under a section 38 - I presume it is a section 38 order - from the Environmental Protection Authority, which has determined that the level of the inlet is too low for any artificial opening. (3) There is no short-term solution to alleviate the flooding. If the inlet is not open, it will continue to cause flooding issues for local property owners. (4) The Water Corporation is currently undertaking a trial to pump water from the flood-affected areas. (5) Not applicable.
