RETAIL WORKERS — ASSAULT — CRIMINAL CODE
AMENDMENT BILL 2024
150. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General:
I refer to the Criminal Code
Amendment Bill 2024.
(1) Is the owner
of a retail business also included in the scope of the new offence of assault
on a retail worker as they are —
(a) likely to be
engaged in duties that are not ordinarily considered part of the ''day-to-day
operations of the business''; and
(b) not under
the ''control and direction'' of the business when they are
within their retail business premises?
(2) If not, why not?
