DISABILITY
SERVICES COMMISSION — BUDGET
628. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the Minister for Disability Services:
I refer to the Barnett government's
$5.1 million cut to the Disability Services Commission budget for the 2014–15
financial year.
(1) How has the $5.1 million been
saved?
(2) Will any staffing positions be
lost as a result of the savings measures?
(3) If yes to
(2), how many positions will be lost, where are the positions located and what
is the title of each position?
(4) What program or services will be
cut as a result of the $5.1 million cut to the budget?
(5) How many vacant positions
currently exist and how many are currently being advertised?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1) A range of
strategies has been identified to achieve the required savings in 2014–15,
including the restructuring and reduction of staff in the commission's
business directorate, returns of pre-paid funding from clients now accessing
compensation funding, and one-off savings realised as a result of delays in the
uptake of services provided to the commission's new clients.
(2)–(3) Although
the commission has abolished a number of positions, this is part of ongoing
reforms across the sector and within the commission and is not directly linked
to the efficiency dividend.
(4) No programs
or services will be cut in 2014–15 as a result of the $5.1 million
efficiency dividend.
(5) As of 13 May,
134 vacancies currently exist. Ninety of these positions are not currently
being filled in order to accommodate staff who will be displaced as part of the
client transition process. Twenty-four positions are in the process of being
advertised and filled. The remaining 20 are not prioritised for advertising.
