Fremantle Traffic Bridge—Closure
1206. Hon Steve Martin to
the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to comments
from the minister reported by the ABC in relation to the Fremantle Traffic
Bridge closure, which included the statement that "limiting some truck
movements for a particular set of time, in particular that morning peak, would
be probably where we would look".
(1) What was the average number of truck crossings
on the bridge per day on weekdays for 2024–25?
(2) Where will the trucks be rerouted through and
what alternative truck route options are being considered?
(3) Which industry representatives has the
minister met with to discuss this limiting idea, and on what dates?
(4) By what date will the minister announce firm
plans on this, given that the bridge closure is less than 60 days away and
considerations around altering truck traffic are being discussed in the media
as ideas and are obviously still unresolved?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Transport.
(1)–(4) Freight is a key area that we are
looking at and we are continuing to engage with industry about what can be done
to move more freight by train to minimise freight movement in those peak hours
to reduce congestion.
