The Meckering train station was closed on 17 November 2001 following concerns expressed by the local community that access to and from the station was unsafe due to conflict with grain freight trains which frequent the area. A study into the situation, which will include an engineering risk assessment and community consultation, has commenced. It is expected that the study will be concluded and a report issued by February 2002. The station will remain closed until the safety issue is resolved.
