(1) Could the minister explain how and when the 10-gram limit for the importation of the industrial hemp seed was arrived at? (2) Does this 10-gram limit apply to each separate cultivar imported or does it pertain to the total weight of seeds irrespective of the cultivar? Hon KIM CHANCE
AnswerView source ↗
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. (1)-(2) Approval to import industrial hemp seed into Australia is the responsibility of the Commonwealth Government. I am unaware of any limit on the quantity of industrial hemp seed that is allowed to be imported. This is a matter we need to discuss, because the member has an understanding about a 10-gram limit. If the member takes this matter up with my office, we could work through why he believes there is a limit and sort out an answer.
