LYNN MacLAREN to the Minister for Agriculture and Food:
(1) Does the
minister acknowledge that a recent growth of live export from Broome would
necessitate an increase in the monitoring of animal welfare in the region?
(2) Can the
minister confirm that a livestock compliance unit inspector position in Broome
that has been vacant since mid-June is still to be filled?
(3) If yes to
(2), does the minister deem it acceptable that there is no LCU inspector
permanently based north of Perth?
(4) If no to
(2), when was the position in Broome filled?
(5) Was the
position in Broome advertised on jobs.wa.gov.au; and, if not, why not?

On behalf of the Minister for Agriculture and Food, I thank
the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) Yes, this
is why the Broome position is being increased from 0.5 to 1.0 FTE.
(2) Yes.
(3) Until the
position is filled permanently, adequate animal welfare monitoring is being
achieved by the use of Broome-based staff and staff travelling from Perth.
(4) Not
applicable.
(5) No, a recruitment package for advertising is currently
being completed.
