CROP — GENETICALLY MODIFIED AND NON–GENETICALLY MODIFIED
1357. Hon DARREN WEST to the
Minister for Agriculture and Food:
(1) How many hectares of canola were planted in 2014?
(2) Of those planted, how many hectares were —
(a) genetically modified canola;
and
(b) non–genetically
modified canola?
(3) What was the total production in
2014 of —
(a) GM canola; and
(b) non–GM canola?

question.
(1) According
to the ''Canola variety guide for Western Australia 2015'', 1 247
000 hectares were planted in 2014.
(2) (a) According
to figures provided by CropLife Australia, the peak industry organisation
representing the agricultural chemical and biotechnology sector, it was
approximately 260 000 hectares.
(b) According
to the ''Canola variety guide for Western Australia 2015'', it
was 1 084 890 hectares.
(3) (a) According
to the ''Canola variety guide for Western Australia 2015'', it
was 334 880 tonnes.
(b) According
to the ''Canola variety guide for Western Australia 2015'', it
was 1 160 120 tonnes.
