NORTH WEST FESTIVAL FUNDING
551. Hon MATT BENSON-LIDHOLM to the minister representing
the Minister for Tourism:
(1) Can the
minister confirm that Sunset Events was one of the key beneficiaries of
Eventscorp–Tourism Western Australia funding to the One Movement for
Music Festival?
(2) Has the
Barnett government decided to fund Sunset Events to stage the North West
Festival on 18 August and was this funding put out to tender?
(3) Were any
conflicts of interest, including perceptions of conflicts of interest, declared
within Tourism WA on this decision, including by employees who previously
worked for the Sunset Events or One Movement Pty Ltd entities?

I thank the member for some notice of this question. The following
information has been provided to me by the Minister for Tourism —
(1) Tourism
Western Australia's contract for the One Movement for Music Festival
was with One Movement Pty Ltd, which was an incorporated company specifically
set up by Sunset Events, Chernov Pty Ltd and Legge Pty Ltd to own and operate
the One Movement for Music Festival.
(2) Tourism WA is
entering into a sponsorship agreement with the Town of Port Hedland to stage
the North West Festival. Tourism WA understands that the Town of Port Hedland
has contracted Sunset Events to manage the event through a request for tender
process.
(3) No
conflicts of interest or perceived conflicts were identified by Tourism WA or
its employees who conducted the assessment and prepared the recommendation to
the Tourism WA board to fund the North West Festival. No Tourism WA employees
involved in this assessment and recommendation had any involvement with Sunset
Events or One Movement Pty Ltd.
