I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) The current School Education Act Employees’ (Teachers and Administrators) General Agreement expires in March 2008. The parties are required to commence negotiations for a replacement agreement at least six months prior to the expiry. All salary rates, including for casuals, will be reviewed through the negotiations and form part of any new agreement. (2) The agreement specifies the hourly rates paid to casuals at Canning College, Tuart College and similar teaching institutions; that is, the senior colleges. The current rate is $47.74. This increased in early August 2007 from $44.78 an hour. (3) The department, in consultation with the senior college principals and the State School Teachers’ Union, is reviewing the working conditions and applicable casual rates for senior colleges. The department anticipates that agreement will be reached soon on a new casual rate and be implemented shortly thereafter.
