CARINE PRIMARY SCHOOL — OUT-OF-SCHOOL-HOURS
CARE SERVICE
750. Hon MARTIN PRITCHARD to the Minister
for Education:
I refer to the request by some
parents of students at Carine Primary School for an out-of-school-hours care
service provider to run a service on site.
(1) Given that there is suitable
accommodation on site for this service, why was the proposal rejected?
(2) Given that
the children of many working parents attend Carine Primary School, will the
minister consider asking the school board to reconsider this proposal?
(3) What policies
or guidelines are currently in place to assist school leaders and school boards
assess whether an out-of-school-hours care service would be suitable for their
school?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) Guidelines
for the establishment of a deed of licence for the purposes of
out-of-school-hours care provide principals with a decision-making process
based on risk and availability of suitable facilities for the duration of the
proposed licence, and that the use does not interfere with the normal
operations of the school, as prescribed in the School Education Act 1999.
The principal and school board
reviewed the possibility of an out-of-school-hours care program on the school
premises but the proposal was rejected by a unanimous decision, on two
occasions, due to the lack of relevant space and the potential impact on
student learning programs and activities.
