(1)-(2) State highways are currently cleaned as part of the services provided under eight long term road maintenance contracts.
(3)-(4) The current long term road maintenance contracts do not contain detailed information relating to the costs of individual services such as road cleaning. These costs are part of a lump sum amount that covers a range of services.
(5) The first current long term road maintenance contracts commenced in mid 1999 and the last in February 2001.
(6) The contracts contain standards which the contractor is required to meet and it decides the frequency to achieve those standards.  All long term road maintenance contracts were awarded with 10 year contract durations and all long term road maintenance contracts were competitively tendered. Refer to response for part 2 above, in regard to costs.
In regard to the specified roads, the following contractors are involved -
(a) Best Roads Group, a joint venture between Boral Resources (WA) Limited, Highway Constructions PTY LTD and AusEgis Consulting Australia Pty Ltd
(b) Downer EDi Works Pty Ltd.
(c) Three contracts cover this highway - Best Roads Group, Downer EDi Works and Macmahon Contractors.
(d) Four contracts cover this highway - Best Roads Group, Downer EDi Works and BGC Contracting Pty Ltd, who has two contracts for this highway.
(e) Best Roads Group.
(f) Downer EDi Works.
(g) RoadCare which is a joint venture between Pioneer Road Services Pty Ltd and Fulton Hogan Pty Ltd.
