I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) The Government’s reforms will restore fairness and equity to all Western Australian workplaces, and will create an industrial relations system for Western Australia that balances the rights and interests of all parties. The Minister for Consumer and Employment Protection met with the Managing Director of Austal Ships, Mr Bob McKinnon, and other employers in the shipbuilding industry during the development of the Government’s labour relations policy. The Minister for Consumer and Employment Protection received a representation from Mr Bob McKinnon in the form of a letter dated 1 February 2002. Mr McKinnon raised with the minister a number of matters regarding unions’ right of entry. The minister responded to this letter, noting Mr McKinnon’s suggestions.
