KARRAKATTA CEMETERY
RENEWAL PROGRAM
759. Hon AARON STONEHOUSE to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Local Government:
I refer the minister to my question
without notice 694 regarding renewal operations at Karrakatta Cemetery, which
was asked on 26 June 2019 and answered on 27 June 2019.
(1) How many
pieces of correspondence, physical and/or electronic, has the minister's
office received from members of the public regarding the renewal program since
27 June 2019?
(2) How many
pieces of correspondence, physical and/or electronic, has the minister's
office now received from members of the public on the same subject in this
calendar year?
(3) Although I appreciate
the minister's commitment to prioritise his department's review
of the relatively recent Cat Act 2011, will he concede that there is a clear
and mounting concern regarding renewal at Karrakatta, which requires him to
offer the public a firm date for a full and public review of the much older
Cemeteries Act 1986 as well?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Since 27 June 2019, 45 pieces of
correspondence have been received from members of the public.
(2) Since 1 January 2019, 87 pieces
of correspondence have been received from members of the public.
(3) No. As previously stated, the minister's
current legislative priorities are key reforms to the Local Government Act 1995 and the introduction of measures to stop puppy farming. In addition,
the statutory reviews of the Cat Act 2011 and Dog Act 1976 are being conducted.
