(a) On 1 September 2008 1,606 Aboriginal prisoners were in custody in prisons/ work camps in Western Australia.
(b) On 1 September 2008 Aboriginal prisoners made up 41.38% of the overall prison muster.
(c) The following table details the number of Aboriginal prisoners incarcerated at each prison and work camp as at 1 September 2008:

(d) Of the 1,606 Aboriginal people in Western Australian prisons on 1 September 2008, 971 of those were held in Metropolitan prisons.
Of the 971 Aboriginal prisoners held in Metropolitan prisons, 409 had their last-known address recorded as a Regional location (not Perthor Interstate).
Of those 409 Aboriginal prisoners with a Regional last-known address, 136 were recorded as being from an Aboriginal Community.
(e) The Department of Corrective Services does not routinely collect data from prisoners about their tribal languages or groupings, however this information is occasionally provided voluntarily by prisoners.
Of the 1,606 Aboriginal prisoners detained in WA Prisons on 1 September 2008 only 159 had voluntarily advised that they belonged to a language group. There were a total of 59 language groups represented between those 159 persons.

records the following rates of incarceration for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous prisoners in Western Australia:
