I thank the member for the question. I am very pleased, with all the negativity that has been going on in the Parliament today, to have some fantastic news. I am sure my friends on the other side of the house, particularly the member for Carine, will celebrate. Dr J.M. Woollard interjected. The SPEAKER : Order! The minister will take her seat. I call the member for Alfred Cove to order. Ms A.J.G. MacTIERNAN : The Liberals for Forests! At one o’clock this morning, our good friend TBM broke through to the William Street platform box, bringing to completion three legs of the tunnel project under the city. It has been a very successful project. Tunnelling has been achieving a rate of in excess of 20 metres a day. That is faster than the experience of this machine in other places around the world. It has actually been setting world record pace. Surprisingly, we have not read anything about this in The West Australian . Obviously, it has been going too good. I recognise the extraordinary performance of Leighton Kumagai in this regard. Notwithstanding the cynics who said that it could never be done, during this process we have not run into one of the ground anchors that we were told would stop this project. The tunnel has gone under four buildings for the second time and there has not been more than a couple of millimetres of movement at surface level. We always had confidence in the engineers in Western Australia, and have had confidence that we could bring this project off, and we have done so. The final leg is expected to start in the coming weeks. We are confident now that tunnelling could be completed as early as the end of October and we are very, very confident that the project will be completed by April and we will have the trains running fully operational in July 2007 as promised.
