GIFTED AND TALENTED EDUCATION PROGRAMS
325. Hon ED DERMER to the minister representing the Minister
for Education:
I refer to the reports in the media on 21 May 2012 that
places in selective-entry gifted and talented education—otherwise known
as GATE—programs will still be honoured next year.
(1) Will GATE programs continue beyond 2013?
(2) Are there
plans for GATE programs to be stopped after 2013 to accommodate the move of
year 7 to high school in 2015?
(3) Will the
minister rule out any move to diminish or cancel GATE programs in the lead-up
to the move of year 7 to high school in 2015; and, if not, why not?
(4) Why has
Perth Modern School not been earmarked for infrastructure funding to
accommodate the move of year 7 to high school?
