QuestionView source ↗

I refer to the proposal to build a four-storey floating hotel over the Swan River at Barrack Square. (1) Is all the area of the riverbed and foreshore included in the current lease? (2) When was the proposal to develop the hotel over the river first put to the Government? (3) What changes to the lease will be necessary, and in particular will lease payments to the Government increase? (4) Who is currently managing the lease to the Government? Mr COWAN

I thank the member for some notice of this question, because it has permitted the Minister for Transport to provide the following response - (1) The proposed hotel development, which will not be a floating hotel, is contained within the existing lease option areas. Part of the proposed public boardwalk is outside of this area. (2) The concept was raised in early 1999. A development application was submitted to the Swan River Trust in July 1999. (3) The option to extend the lease area will need to be exercised. The permitted uses under the lease will require amending. Any other changes to the lease, including the rentals, will be subject to negotiation. (4) McGees National Property Consultants.
