(1)–(2) I
thank the member opposite for the opportunity to talk about the reform that
this state is undertaking in the taxi and on-demand transport sector. This is a
major piece of reform for the industry, something that has not occurred for
many decades, and some would say it is well overdue. What we are doing is
underpinning the transition from an industry that has been based on scarcity of
supply and regulation to one that will be based on customer service and quality
of the customer proposition. As part of that transition, we have established
three funds. The first fund provides
for a payment of $20 000 for each licence bought before 18 December 2015. The
second fund is the $6 million hardship fund that the member opposite referred
to; and, the third fund is another $1.5 million to assist the industry with
transitioning through training, because we want to support them around
technology, as well as branding and marketing.
