❓ A parliamentary question regarding the completion and availability of soil testing results for the Perth foreshore and CBD in relation to the South West Metropolitan Railway tunnel project. The Minister confirms completion, inclusion in an EOI package, and no anticipated additional costs.

QuestionView source ↗
Notice of this question was given yesterday. I refer to the minister’s media statement of 5 January this year, which states that soil testing along the Perth foreshore and in the central business district to assess the strength of the ground and soil conditions along the route of the south west metropolitan railway tunnel would be completed by the first week in February. (1) Has the soil testing process been completed; and, if so, are the results publicly available? (2) If not, why not? (3) Will the minister undertake to provide the House with the full and complete results of this testing? (4) Are any additional costs to the construction of the tunnel anticipated as a result of this testing? Hon GRAHAM GIFFARD

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) Yes. Given the highly technical nature of the documentation, the results have been included in the documentation package for the city project invitation for expressions of interest, advertised on 15 March 2003. The reports consist of five volumes of up to 200 pages each, are comprehensive and highly technical, and not in a form suitable for distribution to the general public. However, the documentation is available for viewing from the city rail development office if any member of the public would like to view the reports. (3) Given the size and technical nature of the documentation, it would be more appropriate for any members who would like to view the documentation to contact the minister’s office and a briefing will be arranged at Parliament House. (4) No. The investigation has not revealed any unexpected conditions. If anything, the updated geological model is more favourable than the initial model derived from the geotechnical data that was available from previous drilling carried out in the CBD.
