PERTH FREIGHT LINK — MINISTER FOR PLANNING
599. Ms R. SAFFIOTI to the
Minister for Planning:
I refer to reports in the weekend press that the minister, as
Minister for Planning, has misgivings about the Perth Freight Link project.
(1) Are these reports accurate?
(2) Does the minister fully endorse both stages of the Perth
Freight Link project, including stage 2?
(3) What role
does the ministerXXX ###XXXs agency play in the final
decision on the construction of this project?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for the question.
(1)–(3) I
saw the report in The Sunday Times last Sunday; there was some commentary about what may or may not have been said
in a particular cabinet meeting, and obviously I am not going to divulge the
discussions that have occurred in cabinet, just as a member of any governmentXXX ###XXXs cabinet would not. In relation to the
wider issue, obviously there are important questions about the transport and
movement of freight; the export and import of goods in and out of Western
Australia; and whether and when a new outer harbour is needed. As the Minister
for Transport has indicated, those issues have been under consideration for a
number of years now, and they remain under consideration. The Western
Australian Planning Commission will provide appropriate advice in relation to
those wider issues at the appropriate time.
