I am getting a persecution complex! The opposition has spent two weeks trying to attack me on a personal level. When it sticks to that level, its arguments lose all credibility. Mr R.H. Cook : There is a credibility problem, and it’s you, minister. Mr R.F. JOHNSON : There is a credibility problem on that side of the house, I can tell the member. I know that I have the full support of my parliamentary colleagues. I have a tough job to do; I have to bring bills into the house that are designed not only to protect our community, but also to try to catch violent people in our community, and that is what this bill is all about—to stop people from being seriously injured or killed by weapons in our community. There is an increase in such crimes; the committee accepts that and it is mentioned in the report it delivered today. Knowing that, my priority as Minister for Police is to try to do my duty, which is to try to protect the community. I will continue to do that for a very long time to come.
