COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTRES — FUNDING
678. Hon JIM CHOWN to the Minister for Regional Development:
I refer to the minister's
recent decision to reverse the funding cuts to community resource centres.
(1) Will the restored funding still
be subject to the minister's previous two-tier proposal?
(2) If yes to (1), what are the
details of the two-tier proposal now that funding has been restored?
(3) If no to (1), how will the
restored funding be allocated to the CRC network going forward?
(4) Will the CRC
program be revised in any way; and, if so, please detail which aspects of the
CRC program will be revised?

I thank the member for the question.
(1) No.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) Payments to the community
resource centres will remain at their current levels.
(4) Yes. The
revision relates to the traineeship program. Regional local government
authorities that do not have CRCs in their boundaries will also be given
opportunities to access traineeship grant funds. I am sure the member would
agree that that is very reasonable. We will also be strengthening the quality
of traineeships and encouraging CRCs to partner with local government, not for
profits and small business to improve the skills provided. I note that Hon Laurie
Graham has put forward some very interesting proposals about how we can work in
with Joblink and the Job Network to make sure that we are really targeting the
right people in order to get these traineeships really functioning well and
delivering real transferable skills.
