1.
Presently there is no rail reserve between Kermerton Industrial Area and the existing South West Rail line, although the Marriott Road reserve is 60 metres wide and may be capable of also accommodating a rail line. Detailed study was needed to confirm whether that road reserve and the existing rail reserve containing the South West Rail line from near the junction of Marriott Road through to Picton are able to accommodate an additional rail line. It is necessary to ensure there are no engineering, environmental or other reasons that prevent an additional rail line being constructed within existing reserves.
2.
Further detailed investigations are required in order to obtain environmental clearance. There will also need to be public comment on the detailed proposals and accordingly the Department is unable to give a precise timeframe for finalising the actual land requirements.
3.
It is appropriate that planning authorities responsible for planning decisions take account of draft regional schemes when considering proposals that may be affected by the region scheme proposals or could affect implementation of the proposed region scheme.
