ST ANDREW'S HOSTEL, KATANNING
495. Mr P.J. RUNDLE to the Minister for Education:
I have a supplementary question. I thank
the minister for the clarity. I appreciate the clarity. Now that the minister
has chosen the demolition option, will the state government provide assistance
in good faith, as called for by the advocate of survivors, with likely
headworks and other expenses, for future development of the site?

I have not heard that from the
survivors. The survivors have been quite clear: they want it to be demolished.
That is what we will do, and then we will dispose of the land according to
normal government land disposal processes. That is what we will do. That is
what the survivors want. We will also work with them to ensure that we can work
on establishing a memorial that will be physical acknowledgement of the pain
and suffering that they endure. That is what the survivors have told us, and
that is what we will be doing.
