(2) A Kimberley Alcohol Management Plan was first drafted under the guidance of the Kimberley Interagency Working Group (KIWG) in 2008. A number of actions identified under the plan have since been achieved including the development and distribution of appropriate and targeted information resources and support of communities seeking Section 175 restrictions.
In light of the significant changes in the alcohol environment in the Kimberley region over the past three years, it was agreed by the Kimberley Alcohol Management Group Sub-committee, established by the KIWG, that the purpose of the Plan and the terms of reference for the Management group needed to be reviewed.
(3) The Kimberley Alcohol Management Group, which consists of government and non government alcohol and other drug services, met on 23 November 2010 to review the existing plan and identify future actions that will better support the Kimberley community to address alcohol related problems. The Drug and Alcohol Office is continuing to work closely with communities and agencies in the Kimberley to coordinate activity at a regional and local level. Any additional resources needed to address alcohol-related problems in the region will be considered once the review is completed.
