Department of Sport and Recreation's strategic intent is to 'enhance the quality of life of Western Australians through their participation and achievement in sport'. The loss of public open space often reduces capacity for Western Australian's to engage in recreational and sporting activities which is an integral aspect of achieving this outcome.  Provided surrounding areas of public open space can accommodate the relocation of recreation and sporting activities to satisfy existing and future community needs then this risk could be mitigated.
