ELECTRICITY
— MUJA A AND B REFURBISHMENT
168. Mr W.J. JOHNSTON to the Minister for Energy:
I have a
supplementary question. Given that the Muja AB plant is still not online, the
joint venture partner has walked away from the project and the project has gone
at least two-thirds over budget, does the minister believe that this
refurbishment has provided value for money for the taxpayers of Western
Australia?

AnswerView source ↗

As
I understand it, Muja A and B is in four sections, two of which have been
online for a month or more; so, they have been generating electricity. The
other Muja A and B 1 and 2 have yet to be brought online. However, as I said,
the project has not gone well and it has been largely over budget. When I see
the total cost and timing, I will make a decision.
Mr W.J. Johnston : Has it been good
value?
Dr M.D. NAHAN : It is just way over
budget, and we will have to make an evaluation when I get the final report on
its scale, its timing and its generating capacity.
