❓ Hon Giz Watson questions the Minister for Health regarding testing for dioxins, furans, and Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) at the Dalyellup Waste Residue Disposal Facility, given Millenium Inorganic Chemicals' admission of dumping dioxins and furans at the site. The Minister's response indicates the Department of Health does not conduct testing directly but relies on the operator's testing under the Department of Environment and Conservation's license conditions.

I refer to question without notice No. 958, where the Minister for Environment stated that she has requested the advice from the Department of Health on the health risks associated with the Dalyellup Waste Residue Disposal Facility (the site). I ask, given that Millenium Inorganic Chemicals have admitted to dumping dioxins and furans at the site and the internationally recognised health risks associated with dioxins and furans, -
(1) Has the Department of Health tested for dioxins and furans at the site?
(2) If yes to (1), will the Minister table the results?
(3) If no to (1), why not?
(4) Has the Department tested for Persistent Organic Pollutants at the site?
(5) If yes to (4), will the Minister table the results?
(6) If no to (4), why not?
(7) Can the Minister confirm that the dioxins and furans on the site amount to ‘low POP content’, as outlined by paragraph 29 of the United Nation Environmental Program’s Updated General Technical Guidelines For The Environmentally Sound Management Of Wastes Consisting Of, Containing Or Contaminated With Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) (2007)?
(8) If no to (7), why not?
(9) If yes to (7), what is the Minister’s evidence for this? Further, will the Minister table this evidence?
