PERTH-BUNBURY HIGHWAY FUNDING
The minister recently indicated that the 2007-08 budget contained an allocation of $654.4 million for country roads. (1) Given that $218.7 million of this funding is for the Perth-Bunbury highway project, would the minister advise what portion is state and federal funding? (2) Of the remaining $435.7 million, how much is state, federal and local government funding? Hon ADELE FARINA

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. (1) The honourable member is incorrect in his assertion that all the funds allocated in 2007-08 to the new Perth-Bunbury highway project are from the rural road component. In fact, works to the value of $103.3 million will be funded from the metropolitan component. Of the $218.7 million provided for the new Perth-Bunbury highway project in 2007-08, the funding breakdown is - (a) regional - commonwealth, $30 million and state, $85.4 million, a total of $115.4 million; and (b) metropolitan - commonwealth, $30 million and state, $73.3 million, a total of $103.3 million. (2) An amount of $654.4 million is allocated in the 2007-08 budget for expenditure on regional roads, of which $115.4 million is to be spent on the new Perth-Bunbury highway project. The balance of $539 million will comprise commonwealth funding of $134.1 million; state funding of $402.2 million; and contributions by other organisations of $2.7 million.
