(1) The Lotteries Commission Act 1990 [as amended] section 5(3) states - "The Minister shall endeavour to ensure that the Commission has available to it from its own membership expertise relevant to the operations of the Commission, including expertise in the areas of management, finance, computer operations, marketing, health and community services". The Government uses this as the basis for selecting members of the Lotteries Commission Board. (2) Two new members were appointed to the Board of the Lotteries Commission in March 2000, Mrs Karen McGay and Mr Roger Lewis. The Chairman Mr Lloyd Stewart's term was extended for three years, and that of Mrs Jennifer Rogers for one year. The terms of the other two members of the Board, Mr Geoffrey Harris and Mrs Deborah McGeoch expire in August and November 2000 respectively. Mrs Karen McGay was appointed because of her extensive background in the community in general, including in local government. She also was appointed to bring regional input to the Board. Mr Richard Lewis has an extensive business background, with particular experience in financial and corporate management. (3) No. The decisions on the appointments were taken by the Minister for Racing and Gaming on the basis of his knowledge of the individuals concerned, and their capacity to contribute to the work of the Lotteries Commission. (4) See answer to part 3.
